Luxury

A cold shower can be the beginning of a long day; a burned-out bulb could make your morning routine a challenge. Similarly, drab tiles can make a space seem dingy; a dated vanity can seem stark and dull. It might not seem obvious, but the bathroom sets the stage for your outlook on life — positive or negative. Somewhere along the way, we've decided we're not going to let the bathroom ruin our day, though. Rather, it now is the first place we go to find rejuvenation, reaching sanctuary status.

Technology

Since the Internet has come into most households, you are probably more educated and responsible about purchases for your home. No longer solely dependent on a salesperson to talk about a product's feature, you can check online, find the true pros and cons, and even compare prices and brands that would have required several trips to stores in years past. Just as technology has allowed us all to get comfortable, though, it morphs and advances at ever-speedy rates, changing what is known about it almost overnight. You want your technology to be cutting-edge but not outdated a year from now. That's why it's so important to know what you really want in advance so that it will be relevant and suitable for your own use. "You might see things in a showroom and think they're great, but can they be taken home?" asks Kathy Euston of Euston Kitchens. "There are lots of great products, but they need to be approachable and user-friendly."

Convenience

Convenience is dead space snatched here and there for use. An item that could be used in multiple ways. A technological advance that keeps your medicine close at hand. Whether your bath is small or large, every inch is valuable as these products demonstrate.

Uniqueness

"Bathrooms today are more than just your white porcelain," says Donna Kirsopp with Schloegel Design Remodel. Master baths, children's baths and powder baths are infused with personality, from the space itself to the selections you make for it. Whether your bathroom is themed or needs a special solo focal point, manufacturers have thought of almost everything to fill your most outlandish desire. Who knows where their product lines will be in five years, so choose wisely. What you think is classy now could be kitschy tomorrow. "A trend is a good thing, but only when it and flexibility go hand-in-hand," says Kathy Euston of Euston Kitchens.
